This is just an
overview of the kinds of things you'll study as a part of Duke's
Nursing Informatics program. We strive to maintain a rigorous and
clinically relevant curriculum.
CAMPUS (2-3 days most semesters):
Guest Lectures and Duke HIT Demos, PDA Applications
Development, Database Design/Development, Web Design/Development, Written
Requirements and Problem Domain Modeling, Technology (hands-on) Labs, Team
Building/Teamwork, Student Presentations and more.
WEB: Virtual teamwork,
clinical information systems, patient privacy, patient safety, policy,
politics, economics,ethics, legal and regulatory standards, technology,
complexity, teamwork, usability, health information technology standards,
standardized languages, cybernetics and systems theory, expertise, information
processing, diffusion of innovation, change, artificial intelligence, data mining,
decision support, quality, and more.
VIRTUAL TEAMWORK:
Students work in assigned small teams to complete group projects.
Teamwork is hard enough, and adding a distance/remote/virtual component makes
it even more challenging! But our alums describe it as a very valuable
tool and skill in today's work environment with multiple hospital sites, remote
vendors, and traveling team members.
