What You'll Study Print E-mail

This is just an overview of the kinds of things you'll study as a part of Duke's Nursing Informatics program.  We strive to maintain a rigorous and clinically relevant curriculum.

CAMPUS
(2-3 days most semesters):   Guest Lectures and Duke HIT Demos, PDA Applications Development, Database Design/Development, Web Design/Development, Written Requirements and Problem Domain Modeling, Technology (hands-on) Labs, Team Building/Teamwork, Student Presentations  and more.

WEB: Virtual teamwork, clinical information systems, patient privacy, patient safety, policy, politics, economics, ethics, legal and regulatory standards, technology, complexity, teamwork, usability,  health information technology standards, standardized languages, cybernetics and systems theory, expertise, information processing, diffusion of innovation, change, artificial intelligence, data mining, decision support, quality, and more.

VIRTUAL TEAMWORK:   Students work in assigned small teams to complete group projects.  Teamwork is hard enough, and adding a distance/remote/virtual component makes it even more challenging!  But our alums describe it as a very valuable tool and skill in today's work environment with multiple hospital sites, remote vendors, and traveling team members.
