| Can I apply if I don't have a BSN or MSN? |
Duke's distance-based informatics program only accepts
students who have a BSN (for the MSN program) and MSN (for the post-master's
certificate). The overwhelming number of applicants who meet these
requirements has prevented us from expanding the program to include other
types of degrees at this time. |
| Can I get my Master's degree in Nursing Informatics via
distance education? |
Yes! The online MSN program in Nursing
Informatics began in fall 2002 (after 5 years of online experience with the
Post-Master's Certificate program). You must have completed your BSN
and have at least 3-5 years of recent clinical nursing experience to
apply. There are no exceptions to the clinical experience rule. |
| Do I have to come to campus? |
MSN core courses are completely online with no campus
requirements; specialty courses usually require 3-5 consecutive campus
days (often over a weekend) each semester. All past groups of NI
students reported that on-campus sessions are the most fun and rewarding
part of the Duke NI program. |
| Do I have to come to Duke for clinical semester? |
Students can arrange their final clinical semester anywhere in the
world! Past students have been heavily involved in choosing their residency
locations throughout the US
and Canada. |
| Do I have to take the GRE (Graduate Record Exam)? |
Post-Master's Certificate applicants do NOT need to
retake GRE exams. BSN students who apply for the MSN program must take
the GRE exam and are encouraged to study and do well! While
there is currently an option for an MAT alternative, admissions preference
will be given for high GRE scores if two applicants are otherwise comparable. |
| Will you send me the syllabus for ______? |
No. |
